Are Entra ID and Azure Active Directory the same?

Yes, Entra ID and Azure Active Directory are the same thing. Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) was renamed Microsoft Entra ID in July 2023, but the functionality of the two remains the same. There is no difference between how Entra ID and Azure Active Directory are used or managed. When Microsoft changed the name of Azure AD, they didn't change any features, management interfaces or workflows, so users and admins can continue using it as before with all the same tools and processes.

Is this AAD course still relevant to Entra ID?

Yes, this Azure Active Directory course is still perfectly relevant to Entra ID. The name change is only for branding purposes, not functional ones – all the management and administrative tools and techniques you'll learn in this course will apply to Entra ID just as much as they applied to Azure Active Directory. In fact, if you really want to, you can just keep calling it Azure Active Directory, we won't mind.

Is this Entra ID / Azure Active Directory training associated with any certifications?

No, this course isn't directly tied to any certifications. Many Microsoft certifications deal with managing Entra ID (Azure Active Directory), but this course wasn't designed with any one exam in mind. Since it comes with many virtual simulations and labs, this course will help with any certification that relies on practical skills actually managing Entra ID (Azure AD).

What certification should you consider after taking this Entra ID (Azure AD) course?

Microsoft currently offers about four certifications related to using and administering Microsoft Entra. This course can help you along the way to earning one of those, which include Administrator Expert and Cybersecurity Architect, but the Power Platform Solution Architect Expert and Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate are probably the certifications that make the most sense for Entra ID administrators.
