What is Cisco Talos?

Cisco Talos is the company's threat intelligence team. One of the largest of its kind, it is composed of researchers, analysts and engineers and provides visibility, actionable intelligence and vulnerability research to help the company's customers detect and protect against known and emerging threats. Named after the legendary bronze giant who guarded the island of Crete from pirates and invaders in Greek mythology, Talos also attempts to stop Internet threats whenever they find them.

Talos consists of five divisions. Detection Research analyzes threats and vulnerabilities. Threat Intelligence identifies both threats and threat actors as they appear in the wild. Engine Development updates and enhances the inspection engines that are included in Cisco's security appliances. Vulnerability Research and Development looks for new ways of discovering vulnerabilities and ways to harden systems against them. Finally, Outreach shares research with customers.
