CUCL vs CUWL Licensing: What's the Difference and When Do Each Apply?
CUCL or Cisco Unified Communications Licensing and CUWL or Cisco Unified Workspace Licensing are two distinct licensing models that are used to license Cisco Unified Communications services.
CUCL, in particular, licenses at the per-user application level within UCM. This licensing type provides a lot of flexibility for users as it allows them to select specific applications that they wish to protect.
In comparison, CUWL licenses per user rather than per-user application. This licensing model will cover any and all applications that a user may be using with the UCM environment. Understandably, the CUWL model is going to cost more per license as it covers many potential applications the user may use.
Each licensing model provides a unique value depending on the requirements of the organization. For organizations looking for granularity in what applications should be used and licensed CUCL is a great option. Alternatively, for organizations that want to allow for flexibility in the applications used, CUWL is a great option.
