Why Cloud Practitioner is the New A+ Cert

The first step in starting a career in IT is by getting the CompTIA A+ certification. That certification tells employers that you understand the fundamentals of how a computer system works. It's an important certification for getting started.

The CompTIA A+ certification was originally designed for a world where IT systems were largely maintained within the physical location of a business, though. Many organizations have since moved to a hybrid cloud environment. Because of that, the fundamentals of operating an IT environment don't only start at the end-user computer but also the edge of the cloud.

The largest cloud provider today is Amazon's AWS infrastructure. In much the same way the A+ certification tells people that you understand the basics of how a computer operates, the AWS Cloud Practitioner Certification lets employers know that you understand the basics of AWS.

The AWS Cloud Practitioner Cert is the entry point to the AWS environment. In much the same way that the A+ cert will lead to other specialized certifications like Network+, the AWS Cloud Practitioner Cert is a jumping point to other, more specialized AWS certifications as well. This certification should now be considered a basic cert that any person hoping to start a career in the IT field should aim to obtain.
