Policy Overview for Cisco SD-WAN vEdge Devices
When administrators look to implement an SD-WAN overlay architecture, they'll certainly make use of Cisco vEdge policies through the initial configuration and deployment of their SD-WAN environment. SD-WAN policies are designed to dictate how data flow within an environment. The Cisco SD-WAN environment clearly defines how data is transmitted within an environment by separating how data travels over the data plane, the management plane, and the control plane. Important to note, Cisco SD-WAN offers two distinct policy types that influence how data is transmitted over the control plane and the data plane.
The Cisco SD-WAN routing policy specifically defines how routing information is transmitted with the network's control plane. Where in comparison, Data Policy defines the flow of data within the data plane. By separating these two policies, administrators gain granular configuration in their SD-WAN environment leading to great enhancements in both security and control of their environment.
