Meet the Trainer: Simona Millham
Simona Millham joined the CBT Nuggets team in 2015, bringing nearly 20 years of experience teaching people how to confidently and successfully use Microsoft Office programs such as PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
Based south of London, Simona enjoys the beauty of her surroundings, especially the early summer bluebells, and loves taking long walks with her husband and their dog.
Since joining CBT Nuggets, she has broadened her expertise to include project management and Agile methodologies, earning certifications like Certified Scrum Master, CompTIA Project+, and CAPM in addition to her Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Master certification.
Simona believes in learning as a process of gradually stacking knowledge, where each new piece fits snugly into place, building up your skills over time. Today, we’re taking a closer look at what makes Simona’s teaching style so unique and effective.
What’s your favorite thing about being a trainer? I love helping people discover tips, tricks, and workarounds that make their day-to-day work easier. It’s always fun when learners have that “Aha!” moment and realize they’ve been missing out on a feature for years.
Can you describe some of the courses or topics you’ve been working on recently? I’ve really enjoyed getting stuck into the project management courses, especially the Agile content because that’s where I have the most experience.
A new tip or trick you love sharing with learners is: Build up your new knowledge in layers. Sometimes it’s OK to not understand everything about a new topic the first time around. Store it away as background knowledge, and build on it as you progress with your learning and real-world experience. It’ll all fall into place!
What’s been your favorite feedback from learners? One of my favorite moments was when a learner told me that following my Excel course was “life-changing” for her. It’s always amazing when learners contact me to say they passed an exam or got a promotion thanks to one of my courses. It’s a privilege to make that kind of impact on someone’s life.
What are some of your hobbies outside of work? I love walking my dog, playing the harp, going to yoga, doing my French homework, and helping out at a local wildlife rescue center by feeding hedgehogs. And of course, whenever I can, I’m off exploring Europe in my campervan.
Any fun anecdotes from your training sessions? Oh, I love it when learners reference some random comment I made years ago about my dog or something else I’ve forgotten! It also makes me laugh when U.S. learners suggest “corrections” to my British spelling (note: we speak correct English here in England, just sayin’—also, I’m joking!). I use the word “faff” occasionally, which apparently isn’t a common word in the U.S., but one learner told me they’d started using it after hearing me say it! That made me smile.
