CompTIA's New Cybersecurity Analyst+ Certification

CompTIA launched a new certification today! The new Cybersecurity Analyst+ (CySA+) certification takes an analytics-based approach to IT security. The new certification seeks to affirm your skills to:

  • Configure and use threat detection tools;

  • Perform data analysis;

  • Interpret the results to identify an organization's vulnerabilities, threats, and risks.

The new certification is designed as the next step for ITsec pros in a certification progression after they complete the Security+. The resulting security certification pathway that CompTIA recommends is:

CompTIA Network+  is an entry-level certification with no formal prerequisites but recommended 9+ months of networking experience and the CompTIA A+ certification or equivalent knowledge. Learn more about the certification in our Roadmap to Success: CompTIA Network+.

CompTIA Security+ is an entry-level certification with no formal prerequisites but it recommends 2+ years of IT administration experience and the CompTIA Network+ certification or equivalent knowledge. Learn more about the certification in our Roadmap to Success: CompTIA Security+.

CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst+ (CySA+) is an intermediate-level certification with no formal prerequisites, but it recommends 3-4 years of information security or related experience, as well as the CompTIA Network+ and CompTIA Security+ certifications or equivalent knowledge.

CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP) is an advanced-level certification with no formal prerequisites but recommended 10+ years of experience and the CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst+ (CySA+) certification or equivalent knowledge.

CBT Nuggets also offers training for the CompTIA CySA+ certification.

CompTIA CySA+ Exam Details

CompTIA announced the new certification last October, but the certification is officially available as of February 15, 2017.

  • Time allotted for the exam: 165 minutes

  • Number of questions: Maximum of 85

  • Passing score: 750 (out of 900)

  • Question types: Multiple choice and performance-based

  • Exam registration: Pearson Vue

  • Exam cost: $320 (USD)

  • Exam objectives: CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst+ (CS0-001) (free resource)
